As a frequent visitor to Bavaria, I always make it a point to explore the neighbouring region of Tyrol, nestled in the heart of the Austrian and Italian Alps. This paradise for winter sports enthusiasts and outdoor lovers offers an unforgettable Alpine experience. Tyrol stretches across western Austria and northern Italy, with Innsbruck and Bolzano serving as the main cities on the Austrian and Italian sides, respectively.

Achensee, or Lake Achen, is the largest and most stunning lake in the Austrian part of Tyrol. Tucked away in the beautiful Austrian Alps, Achensee boasts crystal-clear waters that reflect the majestic surrounding mountains. If you’re seeking tranquility in a breath taking Alpine setting, Achensee is the ultimate destination.

History and Interesting Facts:

Tyrol’s strategic location made it an important hub on the medieval trade route between Germany and Italy. The region was also under the stronghold of the Habsburg Empire. Today, Tyrol is renowned for its breath taking Alpine landscapes, biodiversity, and hydroelectric power. Lake Achen, measuring 9 km in length and 430 feet in depth, is surrounded by picturesque villages, lush forests, and towering mountains.
