Bali is a tropical paradise in Indonesia, famous for its stunning beaches, breath taking temples, and vibrant culture. It’s a haven for sunset lovers, with the sky transforming into a kaleidoscope of colours every evening. From quiet beaches to dramatic cliffs and cultural temples, there’s a perfect spot for everyone to catch the golden hour. Having visited Bali three times and explored different parts of the island, I am excited to share some of the most iconic and stunning sunset locations with you!
Our Experience:
Among the numerous magnificent sunset destinations in Bali, I would like to highlight some favourite spots that left an indelible mark on our hearts. Though Bali’s south-western coastline is home to some of the most spectacular sunset points, the north and eastern coasts also offer surreal views of magical hues in the sky. Contrast between the calm beach and wild Indian ocean turning yellow during golden hour makes a wonderful sight for locals and tourists alike, as one rewinds and relaxes after a day full of activities.
Temple Sunsets:
1. Uluwatu Temple:
In my opinion, this is the best sunset spot in Bali! Perched on a cliff 70 meters above the sea, this Balinese temple offers a breath taking panoramic view of the Indian Ocean. As the sky transforms into a heavenly canvas of orange, pink, and gold colours, it’s a truly unforgettable experience.
The added attraction of the Kecak Dance performance at the same compound, which takes place after sunset, is a must-watch. This traditional fire dance by Balinese men is performed to remove evil spirits, and it’s an experience that will leave you spellbound. Based on a story from famous epic Ramayana, it features a chorus of men, sitting in a circle, wearing traditional Balinese attire, chanting ‘cak’ in harmony creating a mesmerising and haunting sound. Watching a Kecak dance performance is not only an entertainment, it is a cultural experience and one learns about Bali’s rich heritage and traditions
2. Tanha Lot Temple:
Tanjung Pasir, or more commonly known as Tanah Lot, is a stunning temple located on a rock formation, offering amazing sunset views.
Tanha Lot is a mystical temple on the sea’s edge that becomes enchanting as the sun sets behind it, the sky transforms into a magical set of colours. and the temple’s silhouette is set against a stunning backdrop. The temple’s unique location and architecture make it a perfect spot to watch the sun dip into the ocean The atmosphere is peaceful, with the sound of the waves and the gentle breeze adding to the ambiance.
Beach Sunsets:
1. Kuta Beach:
Kuta Beach is not only famous for its night life, it is a popular spot for sunset viewing. The beach offers stunning views of the Indian Ocean, and as the sun goes down slowly, blending the ocean and the sky, creating a breath taking scene, the beach turns in to a surreal wonderland.
You can enjoy the sunset while relaxing on the beach, taking a leisurely stroll along the shoreline, or dining at one of the many restaurants and bars overlooking the ocean. The vibrant atmosphere and picturesque views make Kuta Beach a must-visit destination for anyone looking to experience Bali’s beautiful sunsets.
2. Jimbaran Beach:
Jimbaran Beach in Bali is renowned for its stunning sunsets. The beach offers a picturesque setting with its white sand and crystal-clear waters, and as the sun lazily dips in to the ocean, the sky is painted with hues of orange, pink, and purple.
You can enjoy the sunset while savouring fresh seafood at one of the many beachfront restaurants or simply relax and take in the breath taking views. The tranquil atmosphere and stunning scenery make Jimbaran Beach a perfect spot to watch the sunset.
Adjacent Kedonganan Beach offers similar amazing views and sea food speciality shacks, however it is less crowded than its famous neighbour.
3. Seminyak Beach:
Seminyak Beach is another popular spot in Bali for watching the sunset. The beach offers a more laid-back and upscale atmosphere compared to some of the other beaches on the island. As the sun sets over the ocean, the sky is painted with vibrant colours, creating a stunning visual display.
You can enjoy the sunset while relaxing on the beach, sipping cocktails at a beachfront bar, or dining at one of the many excellent restaurants in the area. The combination of beautiful sunsets, great food, and stylish venues makes Seminyak Beach a top destination for those looking to experience the best of Bali’s beach life.
Nearby Double-Six Beach is famous for surfing but also offers lovely sunset viewing spots. Many cafes, restaurants and rooftop bars are located here catering to all kinds of tourists.
4. Echo Beach:
Echo Beach in Canggu area of Bali is not as well-known as some of the other beaches, but it is a hidden gem for sunset lovers. The beach offers a more secluded and peaceful atmosphere, making it an ideal spot to watch the sunset in tranquility. The sky looks gorgeous here with hues of multiple colours as the sun dips into the ocean, creating a breath taking scene. You can relax on the beach, take stunning photos, or simply enjoy the natural beauty of the surroundings. If you’re looking for a less crowded spot to experience Bali’s stunning sunsets, Echo Beach might be worth a visit!
5.Canggu Beach:
Canggu Beach is a laid-back and trendy spot, perfect for catching a stunning sunset. The beach offers a relaxed atmosphere, with surfers riding the waves and beach bars serving refreshing cocktails. As the sun sets over the ocean, the sky is painted with vibrant hues, creating a picturesque scene. You can enjoy the sunset while lounging on the beach, grabbing a bite to eat at one of the many cafes, or taking a leisurely walk along the shoreline. Canggu’s sunset is a must-experience for anyone looking to soak up Bali’s beach vibes!
After exploring the western and south-western sunset spots, we move to south-eastern (Nusa Dua and Sanur), western (Candidasa) and northern side (Lovina) beaches. All these beaches are more famous for water sports, however, sunsets are amazingly beautiful too.
6. Nusa Dua Beach:
Nusa Dua’s clear waters and tranquil setting provide a serene backdrop for watching the sun dip below the horizon. This luxury resort area offers soft sands perfect for leisurely strolls while the sun creates gentle reflections on the calm waters.
7. Sanur Beach:
Sanur is a tranquil beach with calm waters with the sound of the waves gently lapping at the shore. It is a perfect spot for families relaxing and strolling together while enjoying picturesque sunset.
8. Candidasa Beach:
The beach is lined with palm trees, offers a serene and peaceful atmosphere and surrounding hills add to the scenic beauty.
9. Lovina Beach:
This black sand beach at the northern part of Bali is a serene and peaceful spot to watch the sunset. Calm waters offer a perfect setting for dolphin watching or simply relaxing. Sunset is truly magnificent here.

Many beach clubs and clifftop restaurants also offers awesome views of sunsets in a luxurious ambiance.
- The Rock Bar at Ayana Resort, near Jimbaran: An upscale bar with panoramic ocean views
- La Brisa at Canggu: A bohemian beach club with a rustic yet stylish setting
- La Plancha at Double –six beach, Seminyak: A colourful beach bar with bean bags and sunset views
- Single Fin at Kuta: A cliff side bar with stunning ocean views and live music
- El Kabron Beach Club at Uluwatu: A Mediterranean-style beach club with an infinity pool and breath taking views
Village Sunsets:
1. Amed:
Amed is a coastal town in eastern Bali, known for its serene atmosphere and stunning sunsets. The area is characterized by a long, narrow bay known as Jemeluk Bay, lined with fishing villages, palm trees, and volcanic mountains. The surrounding landscape creates a tranquil backdrop for watching the sunset, often accompanied by the sound of fishing boats returning to shore. Sunset with views of Mount Agung at the backdrop, is really magical here.
2. Ubud:
Ubud sunsets are truly breath taking! The town’s unique blend of lush green landscapes, rice fields, and tropical forests creates a stunning backdrop for the sunset.
You can watch the sunset from various viewpoints, such as:
– Ubud Monkey Forest
– Tegalalang Rice Terrace
– Campuhan Ridge Walk
– Ubud Royal Palace
Each spot offers a unique perspective on the sunset, with the surrounding hills and valleys adding depth and beauty to the scene. It’s a perfect way to unwind and experience the natural beauty of Ubud.
Clifftop Sunset:
A special mention about spectacular sunset views from clifftop location of Karma Kandara resort in Ungasan. The dramatic cliff side setting offers an unobstructed panorama of the Indian Ocean, with the sun sinking slowly into the horizon. Enjoy cocktails, fine dining, or simply relax while taking in the breath taking views. With its private beach and infinity pool, the resort is perfect for soaking in the golden hour. Every visit to Bali feels special with Karma Kandara as our home away from home.
Sunset Times in Bali:
Bali is located close to the equator, meaning there are very little seasonal differences. That is why Bali is a year-round destination for sunset enthusiasts, with the sun setting between 6 pm and 7 pm. The best time to visit Bali for stunning sunsets is during the dry season, from April to October.
TIPS:
1.Plan your day according to the sunset time and arrive at popular spots 1-2 hours before sunset to secure a good viewing spot, particularly at Uluwatu and Tanha Lot Temples.
2.Respect local customs: Be mindful of local traditions and dress modestly when visiting temples.
3.Enjoy the golden hour, the period before sunset, for stunning photo opportunities.
4.Do not leave immediately after sunset and enjoy after hour. Dusk! The soft, gentle hour when day and night blend together. The sky is painted with spectacular colours, creating a breath taking canvas. The world is bathed in a warm, golden light, and the stars begin to twinkle in the evening sky.
Key Facts:
Location: Kolsay Lakes National Park, southeast Kazakhstan, about 300km east of Almaty.
Elevation: The lakes are situated at different altitudes, with the first lake (lower lake) at around 1,000m, the second (middle lake) at 2,500m, and the third (upper lake) at 2,700m.
Activities: Hiking, horseback riding, boating, fishing, and picnicking.
Best Time to Visit: Late May or late September for pleasant weather and fewer crowds.
Accommodation: Options range from guesthouses to yurts and campsites.
What to Expect:
– Crystal-clear waters reflecting the surrounding mountains and forests.
– Scenic hiking trails with varying levels of difficulty.
– Opportunities to spot wildlife and enjoy local flora.
– Camping and picnic areas for a closer connection with nature.
Tips and Essentials:
– Bring warm clothing, as temperatures can drop significantly at night
– Wear comfortable hiking shoes and bring necessary gear
– Don’t forget sunscreen, sunglasses, and a hat
– Try local food and drinks, such as traditional Kazakh cuisine and tea.
Kolsay Lake is a must-visit destination for nature lovers and adventure seekers. Its unique landscapes, crystal-clear waters, and abundant wildlife make it an unforgettable experience.

Echo beach is surfers’ paradise and waves are very large which splash on big rocks nearby causing roaring sounds. Probably that is the reason.
We could not visit Lovina beach during our 2023 trip. But had visited in 2013 trip when we were staying at Candidasa at the eastern coast and we could spot dolphins from our boat cruise.
